Southbank is situated on the southern side of the Yarra River Birrarung and bounded by St Kilda Road and the West Gate Freeway.

Southbank is home to major community, cultural and entertainment assets, including the Boyd Community Hub, library and park, the lively Southbank Promenade with its restaurants, hotels and spectacular city views. It is also the location of the Melbourne Arts Precinct, which features the National Gallery of Victoria, Hamer Hall, and many galleries, theatres, studios and arts education institutions.

The Woi-wurrung name for Melbourne is narrm and narrm is on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri-willam.
