Parking permits for small home renovations

Tradesperson parking permits are available to residents and tradespersons for small home renovations.

Eligibility

You can apply for a Tradesperson Parking Permit if you are:

  • a property owner or its agent, undertaking minor works at a property within the City of Melbourne municipality
  • a tradesperson authorised to undertake minor works at a property within the municipality.

Restrictions

  • Due to the limited supply of parking spaces, owners of property in the central city and Docklands are not eligible for Tradesperson Parking Permits.
  • Tradesperson Parking Permits are intended for small home renovations, not for initial constructions or large reconstructions of a home.
  • Commercial properties are not eligible for Tradesperson Parking Permits.

How to apply

You can apply for a Tradesperson Parking Permit through our online system.

Before you apply you'll need to review the conditions of issue and use, and prepare your required documents:

You must provide us with:

•    A letter/quote from the tradesperson company indicating the nature of work and the timeframe for completion.

Please note: the letter/quote must be on company letterhead.

Timelines and fees

Timelines

The application process takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

Once the application is submitted, allow up to 15 business days for our team to assess your application. 

We will notify you via email of the outcome. If your application is approved, you will be provided with a link requesting payment. Once payment is made your permit will be posted to you.   

Fees and payments

Permits cost $108 per week per permit.

After we approve your application, we will send you a payment request notice. This notice will set out the ways you can pay.

Permits are non-refundable.

Replacement permits

If a permit is lost, stolen or damaged the permit holder may request a replacement permit via City of Melbourne Services External link

How to request a replacement permit

  • Under 'My permits' select the permit you want to replace, then select 'Amend permit'.
  • Select the reason for replacement and attach the relevant supporting documents listed below.
  • If you can’t provide the required documentation, a new permit may be issued (with a new expiry date) at the cost of an annual permit. Apply for a new permit through your City of Melbourne Services account External link.

For lost or stolen permits

  • Provide a copy of a police report. We take permit misuse very seriously and after receiving a police report, we’ll cancel your old permit immediately.

For damaged or unusable permits

  • Return the damaged permit to us via post:

  • We’ll wait to receive this before issuing your replacement permit.
     

If you provide the above information, we will replace the permit at no cost. The replacement permit will have the same expiry date as the original permit.

If you can’t provide the above information, a new permit may be issued (with a new expiry date) at the cost of a new permit.
