Discover narrm ngarrgu, the City of Melbourne’s new library and family services centre in the Queen Victoria Market precinct. Here, you can explore 30,000 books, engage with cutting-edge creative gadgets, or relax on the rooftop terrace. 

Narrm Ngarrgu Library entrance

narrm ngarrgu, from its name to the materials, artworks, and even the carpet design, honours and celebrates the First Nations community. The name narrm ngarrgu (pronounced nahm nar-GUW) translates to ‘Melbourne Knowledge’ in Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung language.

Book a space

narrm ngarrgu Library has comfortable, functional and affordable spaces for hire. Rooms and facilities are available for community and commercial groups to hire and can be used for:

  • meetings
  • community education programs
  • seminars and conferences
  • training
  • podcasting.

We want narrm ngarrgu Library to be a place where programs and opportunities can be created for the community, by the community.

In line with Council’s 2025-26 budget, hire fees will change from 1 July 2025. All booking requests processed prior to close of business on Monday 30 June 2025 will remain at the 2024-25 amounts.

Room booking hours

Meeting rooms are available to hire during the following times (excluding public holidays):

  • Monday to Thursday: 10am to 6.30pm
  • Friday: 10am to 5.30pm

Podcast studios are available for booking at these times (excluding public holidays): 

  • Monday to Thursday: 10am to 6.30pm
  • Friday: 10am to 5.30pm
  • Saturday: 10am to 3.30pm
  • Sunday: midday to 3.30pm
