Melbourne Town Hall lighting application

The Melbourne Town Hall lighting request is for the illumination of the building only.

The following application form will need to be completed and submitted for lighting applications to be considered.

The following conditions must be met:

  1. It is part of a significant city, state or national awareness program or part of a national event represented in several states.
  2. Supports a significant event at the Melbourne Town Hall.
  3. Enhances the reputation of the City of Melbourne by achieving national or international recognition.
  4. Request is non-commercial.
  5. Appropriate acknowledgement of Council’s support through media and publications. Applicant should also provide, where available, their social media kit.
  6. Lighting requests are limited to solid primary colours and does not include white, brown or black (these colours are not compatible with the sandstone building).
  7. Lighting requests must be received with minimum 21 days notice.
  8. Applicants must provide detailed information in their application – failure to do so may result in delayed approval or declines.
  9. Applicants must indicate if their lighting request is linked to a broader building lighting program i.e. Flinders St Station, Bolte Bridge, Melbourne Olympics Parks Trust.
  10. Lighting requests to commemorate other country's national days will only be approved if direction is received from Department of Premier and Cabinet or Office of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Application acknowledgement

1.    Council reserves the right to amend/alter any confirmed bookings in the event that Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet or Department of Premier and Cabinet provide direction to light the Melbourne Town Hall in solidarity with a significant event. 
2.        In confirming this lighting request, City of Melbourne is neither endorsing nor disapproving of the activity.
3.    Council reserves the right for use of its assets during a booked period.
4.    Council reserves the right to cancel any lighting bookings at their discretion.
5.    Council reserves the right to reject any application or cancel any booking due to conflicting events and activities being held in Melbourne Town Hall.
6.    Council reserves the right to lock out booking times due to maintenance.
7.    Applications will be processed in the order they are received.
8.    For events or awareness campaigns taking place over a long period of time, light up approval will only be given for the time period when the event or campaign takes place in Melbourne.
