Submit a neighbourhood event listing

Submit a community event or activity within the City of Melbourne. 

Events that meet our criteria will be published on our event listing page.  

Event criteria

We list events or activities that:

  • are held in one or more of our neighbourhoods, located within the City of Melbourne
  • have a connection to City of Melbourne. This could be an event or activity that is:
    • run by City of Melbourne
    • organised by a community group, organisation or program that is supported by a City of Melbourne grant, sponsorship or partnership
    • run by a community group, organisation or program that City of Melbourne staff have supported either through their time or by being part of a committee.  
  • are open to the public
  • have a community focus, for example they support the community to participate
  • are fully confirmed with dates  
  • are free or low cost  
  • have a hyperlink to further information or to register attendance.

Please note:

  • Events must be submitted by the organiser.  
  • If your event or activity meets the listing criteria, we will publish it on the website within 2 to 5 business days. Events submitted with less than 2 business days' notice may not be listed in time.
  • We will not list websites, apps, professional services, trades, wholesale or utilities.

We list events and activities that:

  • have a connection to City of Melbourne. This could either be because:
    • it is run by City of Melbourne
    • or organised by a community group, organisation or program that is supported by a City of Melbourne grant, sponsorship or partnership
    • or City of Melbourne staff have supported a community group, organisation or program either through their time or by being part of a committee
  • have a community focus, for example it supports community to participate in one of our neighbourhoods
  • are held in one or more of our neighbourhoods, within the City of Melbourne boundary
  • are open to the public (no membership required)
  • are fully confirmed (no TBC dates or date ranges longer than the current year, or TBC venues)
  • are free or low cost (i.e. tickets cost less than $20)
  • have a hyperlink to further information or to register attendance.

We don't feature the following:

  • commercial entities, products or services  
  • business promotions or marketing
  • tourism sector or leisure events and activities that have broad appeal  
  • private functions or personal events
  • gambling or adult services
  • websites and apps
  • classes or events that require multi-day attendance
  • professional services
  • trades and utilities
  • hire services
  • wholesale or B2B
  • promotions and giveaways
  • professional development.

Note: 

  • All listings will be reviewed and edited to meet the City of Melbourne’s editorial guidelines.
  • Publication of an event is not an endorsement.
  • The City of Melbourne reserves the right to decline or remove any listing at any time.
  • Your listing may also be declined if we can’t verify it due to insufficient information, or if there are concerns for public health or safety.
  • Your listing may be suitable for our What’s On Melbourne External link website, which showcases tourism and leisure activities to a broader audience. You will need to submit a listing External link for consideration at the What’s On Melbourne website.

If your event or activity meets the listing criteria, it will be live within 2 to 5 business days.  

We will not list events more than 12 months ahead.

Your listing will be live up until the end date you select for the event. It will automatically delete after this date.   

The municipal council boundary for the City of Melbourne is shown at City Maps on our website.

Your listing will be declined if our editors determine that it doesn’t meet our listing criteria. You will receive an email. 

Please email neighbourhoods@melbourne.vic.gov.au to request changes to your listing.  

We reserve the right to modify any of the content submitted to ensure it meets City of Melbourne editorial guidelines. We can also remove content at any time. 

You must add an image to your event or update. 

Images should be as high resolution as possible, and:

  • of JPG or PNG format
  • feature either real people or places, or illustrations
  • be less than 5 MB
  • be free of logos or text
  • represent your listing
  • approved for use by the copyright owner
  • not AI-generated
  • taken lawfully. 

Note: 

  • If the supplied image is not suitable or no image is provided, we will use a generic image from City of Melbourne's image library
  • We will not publish posters / flyers, images with text or logos, or those that may be offensive or defamatory.  
  • If people can be identified in an image, you must have their written permission. If children can be identified you must also have written consent from their parent or guardian. 

All listings will be reviewed and edited to meet City of Melbourne's standards. We reserve the right to reject listings at any time that do not meet the criteria.

Event cost (must be free or low-cost) field is required.
Event start date and time: Date field is required.

If your event is longer than one day or has recurring or multiple dates, please enter the first date as the start date, and the last date as the end date.

Your event listing will be automatically removed after the end date.

For events recurring at a regular time (e.g. first Monday of the month), or with multiple dates or session times, please provide full details below.

Location field is required.
Please include the event venue or location name and street address. 
Neighbourhood field is required.
Select the suburb/neighbourhood for the location.
Image field is required.

Your event listing must include an image.

Please provide an image that meets the following requirements:

  • good quality and resolution - at least 740 x 600 px
  • landscape format (or able to be cropped to landscape)
  • does not include text or logos.

Note: if the supplied image is not suitable or no image is provided, we will use a generic image from City of Melbourne's image library.
