Parking for larger vehicles

You can park larger vehicles (such as vans, trucks, trailers, caravans or campervans) on the street in the City of Melbourne if the below requirements are met.

Small trucks and vans parked at a market.

Kerbside parking

There is no specialised kerbside parking for large vehicles (like vans, trucks, trailers, caravans or campervans) in the City of Melbourne. If you choose to park larger vehicles on the street:

  • Road rules require the vehicle to be parked completely within a parking bay.
  • If the vehicle is too long or too wide, it must be parked within the minimum number of parking bays.
  • If vehicles are attached to each other, you only need to pay for one parking meter. If vehicles are detached or separated, then a parking fee must be paid for both.

Please note our Activities Local Law prohibits sleeping or living in parked vehicles.

We do provide spaces in key locations to help buses and coaches pick up and drop off passengers – you can read our advice for parking buses and coaches here.
