Training for community organisations

We're invested in building the capacity of local community groups and non-profit organisations, so that they can deliver better outcomes for our communities. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We do this by providing free training opportunities, resources and advice to local community groups and non-profit organisations.​

Online and face-to-face training

​Representatives from local community and non-profit organisations can register to attend free training sessions with our partners at Non Profit Training. Their live interactive training program includes a range of topics such as governance, finance, grant writing, marketing and social media, and more. Training sessions are available in person and online. Eligibility criteria apply.

Eligibility​

To be eligible to attend this training you must be from:

  • a not-for-profit community organisation
  • an organisation that is located in and provides services to the City of Melbourne municipality.

Who should attend

Community organisation representatives (committee members, workers and volunteers) that have limited experience in the areas of topics offered are encouraged to attend, for example sports clubs, multicultural groups, resident groups and service organisations.

Bookings​

  • Online sessions will be held online using Zoom. Face to face sessions will be held at Ross House Association, 247/251 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC, 3000
  • Organisations can access a maximum of five free tickets per financial year.
  • Organisations can nominate a maximum of two participants per course.​
  • Bookings are essential and places will be allocated to the first to apply.
  • People who have not booked will not be allowed entry.
  • Cancellations are essential as sessions do fill – you can send a delegate in your place. Cancellations must be made within 48 hours prior to the session.
  • Failure to attend a session that you have booked for may result in future bookings from your organisation being placed on the waiting list.

  • the name and date of the training session you wish to attend, and if you wish to attend online or in person for hybrid meetings
  • your full name
  • contact phone number
  • the email you would like to use for the training
  • the organisation you represent and your position
  • the suburb in which your organisation is located.

Support and interpreter services

If you require an interpreter, language assistance, or other support to attend a training session, please let us know when you RSVP. We’ll do our best to help with any reasonable adjustments.

Interpreter cost contribution

City of Melbourne will contribute up to $500 per training session towards interpreter costs. Any additional costs must be covered by the attendee’s organisation.

Booking and reimbursement process

  • The organisation must book and pay the interpreter(s).
  • After the session, the organisation can invoice City of Melbourne for the $500 contribution.
