The heritage map External link works alongside VicPlan External link, the Victorian Government's planning tool. It shows heritage places listed in the Melbourne Planning Scheme. It provides more details, such as whether buildings are individually Significant or Contributory to a precinct, and links to information such as Statements of Significance.
Use the search function to look up an address or click on the map to see heritage controls for a property.

- Heritage Overlay: the map shows where the Heritage Overlay applies. The Heritage Overlay is a provision in the Melbourne Planning Scheme. It identifies heritage places including buildings, precincts, bridges, trees, and gardens that are recognised for their state or local significance.
- City of Melbourne’s Heritage Places Inventory: the map shows the heritage categories of buildings as listed in the Heritage Places Inventory, an incorporated document to the Melbourne Planning Scheme. The Heritage Places Inventory identifies whether a building is individually Significant or Contributory and whether it is in a Significant Streetscape. If a building is not listed in the inventory, it is likely to be Non-contributory.
