Parking for buses and coaches

To help keep the city moving, we provide spaces in key locations across the central city to help buses and coaches pick up and drop off passengers.

A bus, vans and a car stopped at a traffic light.

Spaces where buses can stop to pick up or drop off have signs that state ‘No Stopping, Buses stopping less than 15 minutes excepted’.

Buses are vehicles which seat more than 12 adults, including the driver.

Buses can also drop off and pick up passengers using:

  • ‘Loading Zone’ spaces (for up to 30 minutes unless another time limit is shown on the sign)

Map of No Stopping, Buses excepted areas

Open this map in your navigation app External link to find designated spaces for buses and coaches to pick up and drop off passengers.

Click on any bus symbol on the map to see what days and times the ‘No Stopping, Buses excepted’ condition applies.

Always check the signs when you park.

Stopping for longer?

We provide spaces for longer stay bus and coach layover in designated areas outside the CBD.

Stop and park legally to pick up and drop off passengers, then drive to an area with longer parking time limits if you need to layover within the City of Melbourne.

Bus Zones are strictly for public buses

Only public buses can stop in a Bus Zone.

A public bus provides regular passenger or school bus services and is specifically defined in the Road Rules.

These areas are clearly marked with signs that state ‘Bus Zone’.
