City of Melbourne encourages companies and startups to grow and go global by supporting programs designed to build knowledge and create important business connections in overseas markets.

Programs

Nexus

Nexus External link is a startup program jointly delivered by the City of Melbourne, Nanjing Pukou High-Tech Zone and Australia-China Association of Scientists and Entrepreneurs (ACASE), with support from the Victorian Government and startup communities.

It includes an ‘Asia Market Sprint’ capability-building program designed to help startups become Asia market-ready and to seek investment from Asia. It offers pitch competitions and summits to facilitate collaboration between Melbourne and Nanjing’s startup communities. Through the gateway of Nanjing, Nexus can provide Melbourne startups with an exclusive pathway to Asia market growth opportunities.

NexStar

Co-designed by the City of Melbourne and the Australia-China Association of Scientists and Entrepreneurs (ACASE), NexStar External link is an international entrepreneurial program that connects university students with businesses. Through a series of tailored workshops, mentoring sessions, business engagements, and a pitch competition, students will help their partnered businesses develop market entry strategies for their target international markets.

Since its inception in 2018, the program has attracted 460 students from 35 countries and 60 startups and technology businesses, exploring strategies for entering the markets of China, Indonesia, Japan, and Australia.

START in Melbourne, SCALE to Southeast Asia

Run in partnership with Melbourne EdTech company HEX External link, the program facilitates connections that help participants develop, test and progress their ideas, and ‘go global’ from Melbourne.

We’ve helped founders of new Melbourne startups forge connections with Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Open Innovation Competition

The Open Innovation Competition is designed to tap into the creativity and expertise of our community and stimulate new ideas and effective solutions.

Participants are encouraged to incorporate data and emerging technology into their ideas to address common urban challenges.
