Little Bourke Street streetscape upgrades

We’re making it safer for people to move around Little Bourke Street.

Street in the city with large murals on a building.

The City of Melbourne is delivering pedestrian and road safety upgrades on Little Bourke Street, between Spencer and King streets. These works are part of our Little Streets transformation program External link – improving everyone’s experience across our city’s busiest streets.

These works will include:

  • widening sections on both sides of the footpath from the King Street intersection to just before the Spencer street intersection
  • upgrading the crossovers with bluestone
  • providing additional parking for bikes
  • greening the street with 15 new planter boxes
  • creating more seating options
  • modifying the King Street intersection.

To deliver these changes and make the area safer for all road users, 10 paid parking bays, one loading zone bay and one no parking (pick up and drop off) will be removed. To keep the area moving efficiently, 3 no parking bays and 7 loading zones will be retained, and there’ll be new parking options for cyclists.

We are currently in the planning phase for stage 2 works and will provide more information as it becomes available. These works are subject to flood modelling.

The current designs for the upgrades can be viewed below:
