Conditions of hire
The space provides a fantastic opportunity for visual artists to curate and exhibit their work.
Places in the program are limited, and participants will be selected through an open Expression of Interest process.
Key dates
Applications to exhibit at City of Melbourne library galleries are closed for 2026. Applications to exhibit in 2027 will open in late 2026.

Features of the room
The gallery, located on level 1, is a large versatile space which can include both two and three dimensional works as well as multimedia installations. The gallery includes a range of display cases, moveable gallery walls, projectors, hanging rails and screens.
Library at The Dock also features a large window display overlooking Victoria Harbour Promenade. The window is ideal for sculptural or textile work and is offered free of charge.
The gallery consists of:
- Two walls with gallery tracking: 13 m long and 11 m long
- Four moveable walls with gallery tracking: 1.2 m wide x 2 m tall
- Direction lighting
- A range of display cases and plinths of varying sizes
- Wall-mounted screen - sound available through headphone jack or internal speakers
- One floor projector with accompanying white floor plinth (no integrated audio)
- One wall projector (no integrated audio)

$1025* per month, including GST.
*Hire fee waived for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and arts organisations.
