The City of Melbourne manages nearly 58 hectares of the Parklands. We look after the green spaces that surround and connect the different destinations.
The Domain Parklands sit between the south bank of the Yarra River and one of the city s major thoroughfares, St Kilda Road. Established in the 1840s, they are a treasured and important part of our city, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
As Melbourne grows, with more and more people living and working in our central city, green places like our beautiful Domain Parklands will become increasingly busy. That is why City of Melbourne is developing a Master Plan to guide sustainable management of our premier parklands, now and into the future. We want to create a strong, shared vision for the whole parkland while treasuring the important destinations within it. We are working with other Domain Parklands organisations to develop the Domain Parklands Master Plan.
While the City of Melbourne does not manage all parts of the Domain Parklands, the Master Plan would be incomplete if we didn't consider the parklands as a whole. However, the primary focus of tasks and recommendations in the Master Plan will be directed at the areas where we have responsibility.
