Community Engagement Policy

The Community Engagement Policy outlines the City of Melbourne’s commitment and approach to community engagement practice.

The policy details the principles that guide our work towards delivering sustainable outcomes for our city: through shared problem-solving, open dialogue and meaningful participation. It seeks to foster a deeper culture of public participation. It provides a common language that strengthens community engagement for all.

For more information on how the community helped develop the policy that was endorsed in 2021, visit our engagement platform Participate Melbourne External link

We are reviewing this policy and have shared the updated draft Community Engagement Policy for feedback.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future.
