Want to exhibit at one of the busiest public libraries in Australia? The vibrant gallery at City Library is available for artists wanting to present an exhibition.

Conditions of hire

The space provides a fantastic opportunity for visual artists to curate and exhibit their work at a gallery in one of Australia's most innovative libraries.

Key dates

Applications to exhibit at City of Melbourne library galleries are closed for 2026. Applications to exhibit in 2027 will open in late 2026.

Features of the room

The gallery consists of:

  • two gallery walls: 17 m long x 3.2 m high and 3.5 m long x 3.5 m high
  • directional lighting
  • three plinths with perspex covers.

Monthly fee

$1025* per month, including GST.

*Hire fee waived for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and arts organisations.

Display cabinets

Display cabinets at City Library are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to exhibit their work. The display cabinets are best suited for small 2D art works (maximum size of niches is 900 wide x 290 deep x 340mm high) ) and content has a General (G) classification.

If you are interested in exhibiting your work, please send an artist bio, summary of artwork, images and when you would like to exhibit to librarygallery@melbourne.vic.gov.au.
